IF YOU COULD CHOOSE YOUR CHILD'S FRIENDS, WOULD YOU?
This week the realization hit me of how friends from camp become life-long friends! Our summer staffers are now best of friends who somehow keep connected even though they live in many different towns, and the campers are following suit. There's something about camp that encourages deep, fun, godly relationships, which in turn challenge each staff member or camper to grow in their walk with the Lord!
I read a quote this week that made me realize that kids want MORE. This generation doesn't want to be complacent, so in their search for more, they either become MORE religious or MORE rebellious. Our prayer is that the generation of young people who will be exposed to Camp Jonah this summer, whether serving or as campers, will choose religion over rebellion (religion that involves a relationship with Christ, not a list of rules). We know that Jesus Christ is the "MORE" they're looking for, so we'll continue to run our summer camps with two goals in mind: To have fun, and that each person will take the next step in their walk with God.
We invite you to send your kids here this summer! |
| ANOTHER GOOD-BYE |
|
Jeff and I will say another good-bye in a few weeks. Brian joined our family when he was age 14. He's now 22 and following hard after God. Brian has been employed here for about four years on our maintenance staff. His last day at Jonah Ministries is March 22nd. (What a way for Jeff and me to celebrate our 28th Anniversary!) Brian and Annie are now packing everything they own to follow God's leading to Vicente Guerrero, Baja California, Mexico, to a place called Foundation For His Ministry (www.ffhm.org). It is an orphanage, daycare, preschool, rehab center, etc. They plan to leave at the end of March and be gone through September.
What Brian and Annie want most is "your prayer support so that we can hear from God and obey Him. Our desire is to volunteer wherever needed, but also for God to teach us. We want to grow in God and in our relationship with each other.
"We have prayed for God to confirm this desire, or even to take it away if it's not his will. In return, he's just given us more passion and excitement. So, we've sold many things and
moved to a tiny apartment. In just a few weeks, we'll pack up everything we own, put some in storage and take the essentials with us as we head off to Mexico. Only God knows where we will call home when we return.
"We are looking forward to being a part of this ministry. Please pray that we can have open hearts and a willingness to listen to God."
If you'd like to read their entire Missionary Letter and some specific prayer requests, please click here. If you'd like to support them financially, your tax-deductible gifts can be sent to: Mount Adams Baptist Church, PO Box 164, Trout Lake, WA 98650 (Please send the check with a note attached "For Brian & Annie Duke.")
We'll miss you and pray for you, Brian & Annie & Malachi!

PRAISES
-
Grandma's (Bernice) surgery and follow-up appointment for her uterine cancer went real well. She is home recovering quickly and rejoicing in the news that THE CANCER DID NOT SPREAD to her lymph nodes! We give full credit to the Lord for all this great news! Thank you for praying and calling and caring.
-
Thank the Lord with us for a great winter retreat season! (Yes, we still have snow on the ground.)
-
I've been asking you to pray for the selection of our Summer Staff. Thank you. We've selected our staff and are amazed at how God has provided!
-
It's been fun to watch God provide kitchen help this winter-especially since Grandma has been out for awhile! Thanks to Angie, Dianne, Sammi, McKenzie, Ellie, Esther, Kaleb, Christopher, and soooooooo many others!
-
Unity. It so great to work with awesome employees. Jeff and Grandma and I are always grateful for the ones who fill each position here. I love working in a place where the people are nice, talented, thoughtful and godly. We're truly blessed!
PRAYER REQUESTS
-
Please be praying for bulging attendance at each of our summer camps.
-
Camp plans are well underway-and very exciting! Please pray regularly for our Camp Directors for: balance of family, work, camp; good health, passion and vision, direction.
-
We had to turn a few applicants away from our summer staff. Pray that the Lord will lead them to other fulfilling ministries.
-
As we welcome new people in to Micah, Sherri, and Brian's positions, pray for easy transition and that we will continue to be a smooth-running machine. As much as we will miss these three, it's amazing and exciting to see the ones that God is already bringing in to fill their shoes.
-
We'd love your prayers for wisdom as we take a hard look at finances, begin the process on two grant applications, and brainstorm for the future. |
