This morning, I was able to have a very quiet time with the Lord. I wrote down just one verse in my journal, I will not sacrifice to the Lord burnt offerings that cost me nothing (2 Samuel 24:24).
I've been pondering this quote from David. During our summer camp marathon season, sometimes I wish for more sleep, less work, not as many decisions to make, and perfect campers every week. If my goal in life is to do what Jesus would do, then my life should reflect gladness in giving up everything in service to my Savior.
Our whole summer staff would appreciate your prayers this week. It's our last week of camp and we desire for it to be our BEST week ever! Pray that our heart attitudes and our actions would be sacrifices that are pleasing to the Lord.
Speaking of sacrifice, Grandma (Bernice) Duke will celebrate her 75th birthday this Thursday, while cooking for over 100 people. She's such an example to us of giving her all. If you would like to help her celebrate, you could send an email (write Grandma in the subject line) and I'll print it out and give it to her. If you'd like to help us surprise her with a special gift, you can send a check to help cover a two-week mission trip she'd like to take with her son, Dee, in November. This would not be tax-deductible. Please send a check made out to Bernice Duke in an envelope addressed to Jeff Duke, 31 Little Mtn. Rd., Trout Lake WA 98650.
Praises
- Thank you, Pam, for being our last-minute, fill-in bus driver when Jeff is busy with other jobs.
- Thank you to an amazing, moldable, hard-working summer staff. The best ever!
- Thank you to the parents of this great staff for letting us borrow your great kids. We realize the sacrifice youve made.
- Matt (Stonewall) Dearden has agreed to take over Micahs position next summer! As for Sherris camps, Harmony Allaway has agreed to direct Music Camp and Krysti (Stitch) Emerson will direct Home Ec Camp! It's great to already have these fantastic people in place. They're already dreaming and planning for next year!
- We're grateful for all the decisions made this past week. The campers are filling out commitment cards that say things like, "I want to follow Him with my entire self - not just part of me." And "...to be broken and surrender completely to Him - that's how He will use me." Your prayers, gifts, sacrifices really do help us to make a difference in the campers lives!
- Thank you, Scott & Katie, for letting us use your property for our Adventure Camps! Wow, what a gift! We couldn't do the program were doing without you!
Prayer Requests
- Pray for our very busy week - a full Jr High Adventure Camp and VCHS Football Team.
- Please pray for our mixed emotions as we finish 2007 summer camp and say good-bye to our Summer Co-Program Directors: Micah (SPAM) Anderson and Sherri (Daisy) Duke. Ask the Lord to bless them for their many years of service here. Micah will work part time through winter camps and Sherri heads to Liberia in September to work for an adoption agency there.
- Please pray for our staff to be able to transition easily into upcoming school, missions trips, etc. It really is hard on all of us emotionally when we have to say good-bye (on Saturday).
- Pray for our End-of-Summer Party on Friday night that we will give God glory for the summer and that it will be a good time of closure and commitment for all of us.
- Pray for the staff as they also are asked to make commitments prior to leaving camp. Our two goals at Jonah Ministries is that everyone who comes here will: 1) have fun, and 2) take the next step in their walk with God.
