Mt. Adams Fire Concerns
Though there is no immediate danger, for your peace of mind, below is information regarding Jonah Ministries' evacuation plan in case of fire threats.
Evacuation Plan
- The community of Trout Lake is well equipped to face a forest fire. Trout Lake has its own Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), which includes detailed information on evacuation routes and procedures for the entire community, including Jonah Ministries.
- The chances that this current fire would come down to the valley floor and threaten the town of Trout Lake are extremely low.
- In this area, the winds rarely blow from north to south, and are almost always blowing from west to east (the direction the fire is moving now).
- Fires tend to move uphill, and Trout Lake is a good 3,000 feet below the level of the fire.
- Trout Lake is a very well irrigated valley, and although the fire has a lot of timber to burn through now, it would have a hard time sweeping through the relatively moist valley floor.
- If, by some chance, the fire did threaten the Trout Lake Valley and as a result Jonah Ministries, all campers and staff would be quickly and safely evacuated by bus to the marina in Hood River. Parents would be notified immediately of the evacuation. Jonah Ministries has two working buses.
- We have reliable sources that will keep us informed through the coming days and weeks on the condition of the fire. We will know in a very timely manner if an evacuation is necessary.
