2007 Xtreme Adventure Camp

Extreme Adventure Camp is more than just extreme adventure... It's about:
Spiritual Growth Leadership Development
Physical Challenge Technical Training

2007 Extreme Adventure Camp

The activities involved in the Extreme Adventure Camp program will be physically and, from time to time, emotionally challenging for most participants. This is Extreme Adventure Camp for the extreme camper. Due to the intensity of the activities, we have a simple pre-registration process consisting of a list of prerequisites including an acceptance application. Students must apply and be accepted in order to attend. In part, the pre-registration process and acceptance application are created to help us determine whether or not the applicants are prepared mentally for the physical challenges at camp.

Preparing For the Physical Challenge

We encourage campers to do a little conditioning before camp begins to help get prepared for the physical challenges ahead. Here are three easy steps to Extreme Adventure Camp conditioning:

  1. Spend time each day outside in the sunshine and heat: Spending time in the heat rather than an air conditioned building will help the body acclimate to the hot July weather during camp. Exposing skin to a little sun light will also stimulate melanin production in the skin, which is the body's natural sun protection. (Remember to use sunscreen... try to avoid beginning camp with a sun burn!)
  2. Exercise - get in shape: A simple way to do this is to work out with a full body cardiovascular routine like jogging, cycling, or rowing. With most of the activities at this camp, strength is not the key, it is endurance. Simply doing a full body cardiovascular workout for 30 min. three times a week, beginning a few weeks before camp, will greatly strengthen the heart and lungs for endurance.
  3. Eat and Drink: Eat healthy foods and drink plenty of fluids before camp begins, especially when conditioning for camp. Avoid starting a new diet right before camp begins. Avoid lots of sugary and oily snacks.
